WRT110 Wireless Connection Drops Periodically

My wireless connection to my Xbox disconnects for about a minute at a time every hour or so.  I've done everything I could find on these forums, called my ISP, Linksys, and Xbox Support all to no avail.  I don't know if I should just buy another router or what, because I thought the most recent firmware was supposed to fix the disconnecting problem, and it did for almost everyone else based on what I've read, just not for me.  Please help.

Re: WRT110 Wireless Connection Drops Periodically

Try to adjust the Wireless Settings -

Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
Click on the Wireless tab
- Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
- Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...

- Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bit.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...

Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

If you continue to have problems, then I would suggest you to upgrade/flash the router's firmware...

Download Firmware 2.77 MB...

Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".

Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

Re: WRT110 Wireless Connection Drops Periodically

I live in the middle of nowhere, so I see no need to setup a security  system, so I'm not going to.  Also, I've reinstalled the most recent firmware countless times, so I'm not going to do that either.  And no, it didn't fix the disconnecting issues.  I'm nearly 100% sure that it's my ISP now, since one of my friends has the same small town ISP, and he just "happens" to disconnect at the same time.  Thanks though, I think your settings did boost my connection strength at least.

Well, to make sure it's your modem, you should leave a computer connected straight to your modem for couple of hours and see if you get disconnected...If you get disconnected then it is definitely your modem else it has to be the router...Maybe you can ask your ISP if they are experiencing some problems...

Re: WRT110 Wireless Connection Drops Periodically

I'm not saying it's my modem either.  I don't even have a modem, some quirk with this crazy satellite-based internet service I have.  I think it's something between either my internet service and my router, or my internet service and the Xbox 360 has a whole.  I called my ISP and the guy I talked to said he'd look into it and call me back either today or tomorrow.  Just to clarify I have "netwurX wireless high-speed" internet.  It also does occasionally disconnect while I'm the computer as well, I'm not sure if it's as often as the xbox though, or as noticable since if I'm not downloading something or trying to load a web page, there's no difference.  Thanks for trying to help though, I'll post what my ISP says when I get the call.

Well, you might have an Internet line if there is no modem, you may connect your computer to your Internet line and see if you get disconnected...And you know if you get disconnected then it's your Internet Service Providor else it is your router...

Re: WRT110 Wireless Connection Drops Periodically

I also have a problem with my Netwurx wireless internet dropping.  After a few service visits it was determined that there is some sort of local interference near ground level.  Their solution was upgrading from a yagi antenna to a dish/grid antenna at a cost of $60+ $30 for a mount if necessary.  My antenna is currently pointed at their Ixonia tower.  Haven't upgraded yet so not sure if it will solve the problem.
