Re: WRT160N V2 crashed during upgrade

Did you select the correct hardware version while downloading the Firmware file to upgrade your Router...

Download Firmware 3.09 MB...

Download TFTP Utility...

Connect your computer straight to the Router on Ethernet Port #1...Hard reset your router - Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...

Now see if your computer obtains an IP Address from the Router - Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt...A black box will appear(Command Prompt)...In the Command Prompt window type ipconfig and press 'Enter'...Look for Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection IP Address , Subnet Mask and Default Gateway...

IP Address should be 192.168.1.x, Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1 (assuming your router is 192.168.1.1)...

If you get the above mentioned IP Address, Subnet and Gateway Address then you should ping the Gateway, type ping 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...If it gives you request timed out then disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer and ping the router again...If you still get Replies then you should be able to Upgrade your router's firmware...

If you do not get teh above mentioned IP Address then you need to assign your computer a static ip address,

Click on the Start button >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>>Network Connections- Right click on the icon for Local area connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Use the following IP address'- Provide IP Address - 192.168.1.5 Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway - 192.168.1.1, click on ok button to Save and Click on "Close" on main Properties window...

Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt...A black box will appear(Command Prompt)...In the Command Prompt window type ping 192.168.1.1 and press Enter, if you get 4 Replies then you should be able to upgrade your router's firmware...

At any point if you want to upgrade the router's firmware here are the instructions :

Double click the tftp.exe file and click run :
For Server- Enter the IP Address of the router that you assigned.  By default, the router is 192.168.1.1...
For Password- Enter the password you assigned the router. By default, the router’s password is “admin”.
For File- Click the triple “…” button and browse for the .bin firmware file...
Click Upgrade button to start upgrading.  A progress bar should show up to show the progress.

Once the Upgrade is done press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

Re: WRT160N V2 crashed during upgrade

hi forsaken,

thanks for the advise, but unfortunately it did not help. Hard Reset is not working and the Router does not reconnect. Same result  through 192.168.1.1  I am afraid that the router i dead due to the failed upgrade!! Or do you have any other ideas?

Re: WRT160N V2 crashed during upgrade

Same here. I've downloaded Version 2.0.03 (07/21/2009) and uploaded it to the router. After a couple of minutes, it replied with a blank page. The web interface was not available after that. Port 80 was closed on the router, the internet connection was still working though.

After shutting down the power and restarting the router all it did was flashing it's power LED.

Doing a hard reset was not successful - the LED did not stop blinking after holding the reset button for 1 minute.

Now I've got a dead router.

Is there any way to bring it back to life, other than sending it in?

Re: WRT160N V2 crashed during upgrade

May be late but here is how to clear up the mess :

Just follow these steps to re-program firmware and everything should be OK:

 1. Download good firmware file on your local disk C: (e.g. C:\firmware.bin)

2. Connect your computer to port # 1 of your router (LED # 1 should be ON)

3. Change IP address of your NIC to 192.168.1.2 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0

4. Type following command: tftp -i 192.168.1.1 PUT C:\firmware.bin

5. Wait 2-3 minutes for router to flush new firmware and restart it

 It work 100%. Success
