WRT160N firmware update

do you have to update the firmware on the router? is it neccessary? i dont want to reset the router and lose all the configurations. if you update the firmware using the easylink advisor will the settings still be the same or will it reset to the factory settings?

Re: WRT160N firmware update

You do not always need to upgrade the router's firmware, just because a new firmware is available.  Generally, a firmware upgrade should only be done if:

1)  The new firmware added a feature that you want to use, or
2)  The new firmware added a security feature, or
3)  The router is not working properly, and all other attempts to get it working have failed.

To find out if a firmware upgrade is needed, check the "Version Info" of the firmware.

The router does not automatically reset to factory default values when you do a firmware upgrade.  However, after a firmware upgrade, you should (manually) perform a reset to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch.  If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.

Re: WRT160N firmware update

The firmware 1.02.2 is latest under United States linksys website ..... while i think the firmware 1.02.4-ca is the latest firmware under Canada ... So you can download 1.02. also ...

Re: WRT160N firmware update

Hello I have a similar problem. I bought my WRT160N in France, and when I look at my admin page it says firmware 1.53 dated 19 dec 2007 and when I look at the linksys support page it says 2.02.2 dated 10 jan 2008.

Which one is right/ most recent?

While it says 10 jan 2008 on the download page, after I performed the update it shows the firmware version as v1.02.2 Nov 16, 2007.

I'll be doing a factory reset in the very near future. :smileymad:

Anyone know where I can get the 1.53 firmware?

That reset button isn't a factory reset...

Re: WRT160N firmware update

Not sure where to find the actual compiled binary file for v1.53.  Either Linksys removed it or there is still issues with this new web site.  The source code can be found here but you'll need to compile it:

ftp://ftp.linksys.com/opensourcecode/wrt160n/1.53.0/WRT160n_v1.53.0_etsi.tgz

Linksys posts links to the source code for most of there firmware here:
