WRT3200ACM - 1.0.6.184351 Firmware and Wireless Lockups (5ghz radio related)

[ Edited ]

 Complication:

* Since installing the updated firmware, within approximately 1-2 hours - the wireless radios cease working.

* Wireless clients cannot connect.

* Existing connections drop

* Wired connections remain able to connect / change settings / restart the router as needed.

*** Disabling the 5ghz radio ceases the behavior. ***

I have attampted to revert, and I am not able to revert to the prior firmware and the prior versions appear to have been removed from the Linksys website.

Situation / Configuration:

WRT3200ACM v1

  • Firmware Ver. 1.0.6.184351
  • 2.4Ghz on Channel 6, 5ghz radio on 64
    • Unique SSID's
    • Broadcasting SSID's
  • WPA2 / AES
  • No MAC filtering or custom target routing.
  • Media server disabled
  • USB & File server enabled, 1.5TB drive attached.

I've had this exact same problem, rebooting resolves it for a while.  I've reverted back to the previous release and it seems to have resolved the issue.  Tech support was about helpless as they told me something was interfereing with my radio signal even AFTER I explained to them that restoring back to the previous version resolved the problem and it HAD to either be an issue with their firmware or that my hardware was failing.   They want to try the hardware route and I'm fine with that, but it has to be a firmware problem.

Unfortunately, the hardware route isn't an option for me - warranty is already expired on my unit. Given the lack of frequent firmware releases, it may be 6 months or more before I get resolution on this.

Re: WRT3200ACM - 1.0.6.184351 Firmware and Wireless Lockups (5ghz radio related)

In my case after trying 3 different firmware versions, I thought my wrt3200 was dying, so I bought a new one. The new one had the same issue, so I took returned it. As I said in my other post the number of 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz signals has doubled at my location since I first installed by Wrt3200 a year ago. Maybe the 3200 can't handle there being another 5Ghz router in my neighborhood. Regardless, this unacceptable. The issues is either a poor overall design, or it's some kind of firmware issue. Linksys could say my issue is new interference in the 2.4ghz or 5ghz bands. And maybe that is an issue for the WRT3200(it shouldn't be). But, it doesn't seem to be an issue for the Nighthawk that I am now running in place of the WRT3200.

Cguilford, what firmware do you find is working for you now?

Hi,

I had the same problem with my WRT3200. After downgrading the firmware to the previous version ( http://downloads.linksys.com/downloads/firmware/FW_WRT3200ACM_1.0.6.181063_prod.img), this issue seems to be fixed.

I have the same problem, after the reboot, the issue will even come back quicker if I use the internet heavily like music streaming.

It appears to be a firmware problem. I also disabled "Auto Update" feature.
