WRT54G - Can I upgrade to v8.0 from v4.30.5?

I have a WRT54G with v4.30.5.
I see that for this particular model the version is up to v8.0.

My question is can I upgrade from v4.30.5 to v8.0?

Thank you.

No, unless you buy a WRT54G version 8.  Note that the complete "model" identifier includes the product identifier plus the first digit(s) of the firmware version to the left of the first dot.  You can install only version 4 firmware upgrades to your current router (Model WRT54G version 4).  I do not know whether the features of version 8 differ from the features of version 4.  From what I've read, differences are minimal, such as changes in the user interface, but usually not in the number and variety of options.  The differences among routers that have different product identifiers such as the WRT54G, WRT54GS, WR310N, etc., are another matter entirely.

No, you can't upgrade your router's version, you can only upgrade the firmware on your router...

Thanks to all who answered my question, especially to Stardance.

Now I have a better grasp of my routers firmware.
