WRT54G V5 Wireless Connections Dropping

Hey guys

I have a WRT54G V5 Wireless Router with the most current Firmware. Ever since I purchased this router it's constantly dropping the two Dell Wireless Laptops. You can watch the connection speed gradually drop from 54mbps down to 1-2mbps before it finally drops. I'm constantly unplugging the power from the router. Sometimes 15+ times a day.

The PC connected to the router never drops it's connection. I'm using 5.8Ghz cordless phones & they do not seem to interfere with the connection at all. No matter what channel I use on the router, the wireless connections ALWAYS drop. Sometimes the connection will drop every 5 minutes or less. Both Laptops lose connection at the same time, everytime.

i understand your issue, from your words i see that you are techie, so i am giving you the direct steps.
1. Login to the router.
2. Try to reduce the MTU size on the Basic Setup ( make it manual- 1400)
3. Click on wireless, Wireless Security, Security Mode--- WPA
4. Now check for the connection.
This will Work.....

Re: WRT54G V5 Wireless Connections Dropping

Thanks for the suggestions.

I will give it a try. Before we were using the Dell Wireless WLAN Utility to connect. I've read it's unstable with many brands of routers, so I've disabled it & I've been using Windows Zero Config instead. It *appears* to have brought a touch more stability, but I am still experiencing dropped connections. Also, when I initially turn on our laptops - I have to reboot the router for it to accept any connections other than the PC it's wired to.

I will reduce the MTU Size now & I am already using WPA.
