WRT54GH-SG not allowing to logon

[ Edited ]

Folks, I'm not able to logon to WRT54GH-SG over 192.168.1.1. I'm using correct password & have NOT forgotten. I'm hitting 401 page. The support rep told me reset the router which I do not want to before I explore any possibilities. Any suggestion is welcome.

I tried with different username & password combinations apart from mine (correct one which is U: admin P: *****). Combinations already tried are as follows

blank, admin

admin, admin

admin, blank

blank, correct password

(I also tried it over 192.168.2.1 but not able to resolve.)

Thanks in advance!

Re: WRT54GH-SG not allowing to logon

If you don't remember the password all you can do is reset the router.

Are you sure it's the correct IP address?
Is the 192.168.1.1 the gateway address of your computer?
Does your computer use DHCP or static IP?

What is the exact model of your modem?

Re: WRT54GH-SG not allowing to logon

Thanks, but I very well remember the password & have it printed while I set up. And I'm not entering any wrong passwords. IP Address is correct. 192.168.1.1 is not my computer's gateway. Also I use DHCP. My Modem is ADSL2 (Non Cisco) & Router is WRT54GH-SG.

Re: WRT54GH-SG not allowing to logon

If the gateway address of the computer si not 192.168.1.1 then your WRT is not at 192.168.1.1, i.e .the IP address is NOT correct.

Please open a command prompt window on your computer while wired to the WRT, enter "ipconfig /all" and post the full output.

Re: WRT54GH-SG not allowing to logon

Thanks a lot. In ipconfig i checked it was 192.168.0.1 & not 192.168.1.1 which was default advised. Anyways. Thanks heaps, I'm able to logon with my credentials. Cisco Linksys L1 support needs to be imporved for sure but. The support rep just kept asking me to reset before even checking default gateway that I have to punch in there. I would like to recommend your intrest shown & work, if you say so. Thanks again!

Re: WRT54GH-SG not allowing to logon

Dear all,

I have similar problem i.e I am not able to login to router even after complete reset. I upgraded firmware and still not able to login with the default password. My router model is WRT54GH-SG and Sl.no starts with JV. Router IP is 192.168.1.1 and the page is displayed properly. I am connected with physical wire(UTP).  One more point noticed is I am not able to connect thru wireless though the router is visible.

Please help!! Thanks in advance..

Re: WRT54GH-SG not allowing to logon

Hi!

Thanks a lot!! The problem is resolved i.e I could connect thru cable. It was a browser compatibilty problem, I suppose.

As suggested by I could connect from other computer. Then I tried to connect from the old computer with Google Chrome and it connected without any problem.

But I am still not able to connect thru wireless, though it is visible.

Thanks, at least now it is working as switch!

Re: WRT54GH-SG not allowing to logon

Are you able to get online if you are wired to the router? If not then the wireless connection will not work as well. The internet should be established first. Do you have a cable or dsl internet provider? To reconfigure the router, you may refer to these links: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=3686 and http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=3687. Your wireless connection should then work after getting the wired connection working.
