WRT54GL VS. Magic Jack VoIP telephone

Hello all,

I got my WRT54GL v1.1 yesterday and connected it to my pc [wired] and netbook [wireless]. I thought all was well until I noticed that my Magic Jack VoIP telephone began dropping calls after about 1 minute. My first course of action was to disable SPI firewall in router and reboot. That had no affect on the situation, then I noticed that my send light on my cale modem [ no manufacturer listed on unit] was not blinking as it has done before the router installation. I reverted to my cable modem to pc only set up and my Magic Jack worked just fine. I need to use the router for wireless, so I need to find a solution to this problem. I took a look at my firmware version and saw that it was not current, but I wanted to bring my problem here for a possible solution be for I flashed new firmware.

Thanks in advance,

Try changing the Wireless Channel of the router to 11-2.462 and check..If should resolve the problem..If not then, try to upgrade the router's firmware, reset the router and re-configure the router from scratch.

I also have this problem with my wrt54gl.  i have tried everything everyone has suggested so far - open ip to dmz, port forward to both and udp using real and static ip addresses, upgrading firmware, reseting... nothing works.  the only thing i haven't tried because i can't find where it is in my router pages is disabling the sip.  please help!!!!!

Re: WRT54GL VS. Magic Jack VoIP telephone

After researching the problem between the wrt54gl and magic jack, I found that they are incompatible. I had the option of flashing it with Tomatoe or dd-wrt, but I just found it easier to purchase a new router and return the wrt54gl.

*additional note: I went with a Netgear and it is compatible with magic jack.

Hi deedee67! You might want to check this link: http://zaxa.ca/magicjack-plus-not-working-plugged-directly-in-the-router-solved. The author listed down the steps on how he got his magic jack working on his router.

On this link: http://www.magicjacksupport.com/magicjack-plus-error-23-t11311-30.html, one magicjack forumer indicated that after upgrading the firmware of his router, magicjack connection was then ok.
