Last night, while browsing the internet, I was disconnected. I clicked on the available network connections and my router was not listed. I then pushed in the "reset" button, held it for a approximately 30 seconds and still, the router was not listed. Then, I unplugged the router for a few minutes and plugged it back in. Now the router appeared on the list, with a strong signal, BUT it was listed as "unsecured" and did not require the passcode (encryption key? WPA?) when connecting. Also, the router was listed as "linksys" and not the name I had orriginally given it, "wright_residence". What do I need to do in order to make this router secure, re-install somehow. If so, could you please provide directions on how to do so?

Hi heelz11 and welcome to the forums!
The router went back to the default settings because you pressed the reset button. Please follow the step by step procedure on how to secure your network and change your SSID (network name).

I've had the same problem happen to me too. The SSID reset to default and the password was removed. and no one had touched the router. Is this the result of something malicious?

Maybe the router reset itself. Did you see any unfamiliar clients in the DHCP table? Make sure you use WPA2 security if you can or at the very least WPA. Also make sure you change the default router password. Was it only the wireless part of the router that went to defaults or was it the whole router?

possibly someone or something caused the router to reset. you just need to re-setup the wireless security in the router.
follow the instruction in the link i provided above on how to set it up.
