WTR320N still slow after upgrade

[ Edited ]

Today I upgraded my 10/100mbps LAN to 100/1000mbps LAN with Wireless using the Linksys WTR320N. The initial testing went without problems. The small LAN I setup with 2 laptops, router and modem worked fine and I plugged in the other systems.

During the testing the speed of the internet was like before, instant loading of most of the pages (i.e. Facebook, Youtube) and reached the max speed capable, which is 23MBps together with a low ping of arround 30.

Now, with the full network the internetspeed doesn't top 20MBps anymore, it sticks back to 15-17, which is a loss of 6MBps on my connection. After checking out various topics on this and other forums I upgraded the firmware from 1.0.0.3 to 1.0.0.4. Which gave a small improvement but I still don't reach my max speed, nor a decent ping and pageload times.

I got a Cable-internet provider which doesn't require password/username to logon to, so it's a permanent connection. MTU is at 1500, and because I don't know what it is (I saw the phrase and changing it to 1300/1350 a few times while searching for a solution).

Any idea how I can speed up the loadtimes and internetspeed?

[EDIT] the problems are both on wired as wireless connection. Signal stregth of the wireless is maximum and the wired connections never gave problems before.

Connect directly to your modem. Then check the speed.

To get the correct MTU settings, try this procedure.

You may try other DNS servers. Use the fastest one. Either OpenDNS or Google DNS should work.

Try another browser like Chrome or Firefox. In addition, clear the cache or temporary internet files. Do a clean-up on your computer.

Re: WTR320N still slow after upgrade

Change the MTU to 1365.

You have already upgraded the Firmware of the router.

After upgrading the firmware of the router, it is recommended that you should reset the router and reconfigure the router.

Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset and wait for 10 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure the router.

Problems seems to be solved after restart and reconfig of the router.

Re: WTR320N still slow after upgrade

I have WRT320N and very big problems with speeds in my local network ...

I have optic connection 20M/20M ...

The transfers speeds do fluctuate all the time ... sometimes they get very slow ...

ping www.dslreports.com -c 4 -M do -s 1472

PING www.dslreports.com (209.123.109.175) 1472(1500) bytes of data.
From 192.168.1.1 icmp_seq=1 Frag needed and DF set (mtu = 1492)
From 192.168.1.103 icmp_seq=2 Frag needed and DF set (mtu = 1492)
From 192.168.1.103 icmp_seq=2 Frag needed and DF set (mtu = 1492)
From 192.168.1.103 icmp_seq=2 Frag needed and DF set (mtu = 1492)

--- www.dslreports.com ping statistics ---
1 packets transmitted, 0 received, +4 errors, 100% packet loss, time 1071ms

What should I do ?

Does this happen on all your devices connected to the router wired or wirelessly? If it's with the wired connection, you can try changing the MTU size set on the router. By default, it is set to Auto (1500). For the wireless connection, you may change the wireless settings. Try these settings: channel width: 20mhz ; channel: 9 ; security: WPA2 Personal.

You may want to try another thread though ; this one's a 2 year old thread already :smileywink:
