Weird problem have a wrt54g v6

This morning I started my computer and it worked fine. I turned it off. My son couldn't get it to startup. I got home took it to a repair shop and it started fine. Got home connected things 1 at a time. I connected the ethernet cable. The computer wouldn't start when I pushed the button. But as soon as I unhooked the cable the computer started and I could connect it and it works. I can unhook at computer end or the router end to get it started. This is weird. It was working fine till today.  Any ideas?

Maybe you have some wires in the ethernet cable that have shorted out (i.e. they are touching each other, copper to copper).  Try a different ethernet cable.  If this does not fix the problem, try plugging the cable into a different LAN port on your router.

Re: Weird problem have a wrt54g v6

I had already done that.  I did go and get the latest firmware for the router.  After it was installed and the router rebooted itself I shutdown and restarted and it worked.  This morning it booted up fine.  So maybe something in the router was doing it and after it was rebooted it cleared it up.  That was very strange.  I'm just glad that my computer didn't fry.  I've had that happen where it fried everythng.

Well try upgrading the firmware of the router & keep on holding tightly
the reset button in such a way that power light is blinking on the
router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power
cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug in the power cable to the router & check out it will definately work!!

Well it started back again.  I think it has to do with my board.  My wife's computer doesn't have any problem. I even bought a pci ethernet card and when I pluged it in the computer wouldn't start.  And that was without the cable pluged in.  I've looked in the bios and even flashed it with the latest update the manufacture had.  If I can't get it working right this week I think I'll get a new board.  It's really frustrating not knowing a cause.  I even went from the modem straight to the computer and the same thing.  Even unpluged the modem from the router and the computer wouldn't start.  But if I unpluged the router it booted right up.

The board manufacture said to uninstall the router drivers.  I can't find any drivers for the router.  I didn't think there were any.  Still having the same problem.  I'm about to just get a new board.  But everything works fine once it's turned on.

The router does not use a driver.  The router has firmware that is stored in the router's flash memory.
