Wireless router connected to switch not providing internet access

I just moved in to a new place and have connected my Wireless router (WRT610N) to my switch located in the smart panel in the basement (SE2500). Plugging my ultrabook in to the wall confirms that the signal from the switch in the basement is being sent up, however if I plug my wireless router in to the jack and connect to the wireless router I have no internet access. Anyone know whats going down?WRT610N

Your switch has to be after the router.  Must look like this...

Internet-> router -> switch.

Thanks! My question is then connecting a router (non-wireless) in the smart panel instead of a switch and then sending that up to the wireless router, is that an acceptable configuration

Re: Wireless router connected to switch not providing internet access

Yes but you have to configure the 2nd router correctly.  Connecting via wire is the only way, 2nd router, disable DHCP, set router IP to 192.168.1.2, connect via LAN-LAN.
