can't login to the router's setup page

I setup my brother’s Linksys WRT54G router using NetSet, should I still be able to get into the router's setup page by typing in 192.168.1.1? I haven’t been able to.

Re: can't login to the router's setup page

Yes you should, unless you have changed the IP address of the router.

Go to Start ->Run and type CMD then hit enter. In the open window type "ipconfig /all", then hit enter. Look to see what your gateway address is listed as. Your gateway’s address should be the address of you router’s setup page.

Yes he’s right. You need to check your default gateway first. and that would be the IP address of the router.

In most cases, if your are using a speedstream, westell modems in witch this modem is also giving out and IP address of 192.168.1.x Netset can change the IP address from default 192.168.1.1 to a new IP address of 192.168.2.1 so that it wont cause conflict with the modem.

After checking the IP address of the router and the computer, check the settings of your browser. You may have proxy enabled or a very high security.

Re: can't login to the router's setup page

I just upgraded to Internet Explorer to IE 7 and the smart application started blocking the access to the http://192.168.1.1. address.

I had enabled  the https option in my router and by I using the https://192.168.1.1 URL IE7 complained about how insecure was to access that site but it let me go in.

If you did not enabled the https option in your router, you may try to use some other browser not so protective of the user.

Re: can't login to the router's setup page

I am having the same problem.  Cannot login to my router.  I verified that my router address is 192.168.0.1, and I get no response, tried with both Firefox and with Internet Explorer.  I turned off my firewall, and added the address as allowed on my pop up blockers.  I also tried https://192.168.0.1.  I am able to ping the router.

Re: can't login to the router's setup page

I found a workable solution on another forum.

A privacy setting in IE7 was blocking cookies (and even affected Firefox). Allow cookies for your routers IP address:  In IE7, go to the tools menu, click on internet options, then click on the privacy tab, then click on the sites button.  Add your routers IP address to allow cookies.

You will need to reboot your computer after changing the settings.

Try TOOLS-INTERNET OPTIONS-ADVANCED-RESET.  This should work.  :smileyhappy:
