hello all,
ive recently setup a cisco modem with a linksys wrt54g i had lying around for a friend. i enabled the security (WPA/WPA2) and changed the name for the wireless connection. I restart every thing and i see the new name wireless secured connection but unfortunately a while later i see that the original unprotected 'linksys' access point still available. ive tried resetting the router and doing the process over a couple times. first by enabling the password and then changing the name and vice versa but i always see the unprotected access point show up again and again and its driving me crazy. i know its my router as well because when i disable the router both connections are lost. so basically my router is showing 2 names.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!

Did you try removing the entire preferred network from the preferred list? If not then try to remove the entire preferred network from the list and then check it still shows the default network of the router “Linksys” or not. Here is the link for removing the preferred wireless network from the list:

perform a firmware upgrade on your linksys router . Make sure the router is connected to a computer .
