A friend gave me a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHZ broadband router, 54Mbps, but he couldn't find the software. Does anyone know if it is possible to get the software for this router? Or should I get a newer model? I know little about routers. Thank you.

What is the exact model number of the router? You do not need any software to run the router at all. Simply connect via wired computer to 192.168.1.1 username blank, password 'admin' and configure your router like normal.

Hi silverframed and welcome to the Cisco Home Community.
You dont need the setup cd to configure your router.
Check out the link applicable to your ISP:
Do visit the support page of your router as well here.

I have been trying to setup the same kind of router. But whenever I get to the step that says type http://192.168.1.1/
into the browser the page will not load. I have tried other IP addresses http://192.168.0.1/ and http://192.168.2.1/ but still no luck.
I get this message: The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Model: WRT54GS V7
Vista Home Premium OS 32 bit
thanks for the quick reply
(actually I have 2 routers and tried both, the second is model: BEFSR41 ver. 2, but I think the first is the one I'd prefer to setup.)
When I get home from work I will try to connect with other browsers...

I think the first one may be broken, I bought it used so it's possible, everything lights up, but when I hook it up between my modem and desktop I do not have internet access.
With the second, I have internet access, but this page will not load:
so I can't access the online setup.
Is that page supposed to load even if I don't have a router hooked up? just from my regular connection? Because it doesn't.
