Cable Modem --- Linksys E4200 Router ---- network devices
I want to add an ACCESS POINT to my network (need wireless in area that is serviced by a wired connection back to the router but the wireless signal from the router does not reach).
Purchased the WAP300N
When I plug the WAP in to a router LAN port (using factory default settings-WAP mode) the ethernet light on the WAP blinks but it does not get an IP address from the router and I cannot connect to the WAP wirelessly. (Router is operating normally otherwise.)
If I unplug the ethernet cable from the WAP and plug it back in, the ethernet light stops blinking but does not come back on and I am able to connect to the WAP wirelessly and access the admin screen using 10.100.1.1.
What am I missing in configuration that is making the WAP not connect to the router?
I have tried assigning static IP using MAC Addreess at the router and setting up static IP defined on the WAP. Neither works.
I can plug ethernet cable into computer and the WAP is accessable at 10.100.1.1.
The setup utility cannont find the WAP unless it is plugged directly into the computer.
I have uplodaded the latest firmware to both the router and the WAP.

That's odd! What version of the Linksys E4200 do you have? I would suggest you try to use another ethernet cord. You may reset the WAP300N again for 30 secs and check if it will grab the router's IP address.

I don't think there is a difference between the versions. Have you checked if your router's DHCP server is enabled? Maybe the DHCP is disabled and the devices are using static IP addresses.

You may try updating the firmware of the WAP300N . That may make it grab an IP address from the router. Please check this link, http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=80abd85eeea1438cac578b3a2d601e8f_KBxxxx_EN_v1.xml&...
