LRT214 Bandwidth Management having trouble at higher settings

Hello,

LRT214, latest firmware.

Cable Internet service with 90Mbps down 15Mbps up

Testing with speedtest.net

Using the Bandwidth Management set to a low number like 10000 Kbit/sec I get a resulting speed of 9585 Kbps.  However, I would like to only limit a small amount.  If I set the Max Rate to 70000 Kbit/s speedtest.net will give me only 35072 Kbps on speedtest.net.  I would expect that to be closer to 70000kbps

The LRT214 seems to have trouble providing the requested bandwidth if you set it anything higher than 20000 Kbit/s.  Here is some data I collected running speedtests at different Max Bandwidth settings.

Bandwidth Management -> speedtest.net

Kbit/sec -> Kbps

5000 -> 4815

10000 -> 9585

20000 -> 18026

30000 -> 21373

40000 -> 25252

50000 -> 26507

60000 -> 34194

70000 -> 35072

80000 -> 42612

90000 -> 46046

disabled -> 89248

Note that using the settings in the provided screen shot below, I am only able to get 34194 off of speedtest.net.

Re: LRT214 Bandwidth Management having trouble at higher settings

I did some testing regarding this and found the downstream\upstream confusing in Bandwidth Management.

After some testing I conclude the downstream is traffic coming from the LAN and upstream is traffic coming for the WAN. At least that seems to be the case in my testing results.

Please retest using a upstream Rate Control rule.

Re: LRT214 Bandwidth Management having trouble at higher settings

I reversed the settings as you suggested but the results were worse. Looks to me like I had the upstream/downstream settings correct.

Just so we are on the same page, I want the test results from speedtest.net to be 60000 Kbps and 10000 Kbps.  Can you tell me how I can achive these results or am I up against a hardware limitation of the LRT214?

Try setting the Max Bandwidth to 1000000\1000000 and the upstream rules as you have them. At least that worked with my testing.

Re: LRT214 Bandwidth Management having trouble at higher settings

No dice there.

I set max bandwidth provided by ISP to 1000000/1000000

If I enable a rule for downstream limit of 20000 I get a corresponding speedtest of 17720/17789  that is sort of acceptable.

But these are not:

40000 limit gives me 21551/17948

60000 limit gives me 23579/17855

I think it worked better when I had the ISP max bandwidth set correctly.

From my testing it should be a upstream rule.

Re: LRT214 Bandwidth Management having trouble at higher settings

Ok, so I changed it to upstream limit of 5000/5000 as you suggested.  Then my results are 90407/4735.  Thats 90407 Kbps down and 4735 Kbps up.  That makes sense but is not what I want.

What I want is a result of around 60000 Kbps down and 10000 Kbps up.

Re: LRT214 Bandwidth Management having trouble at higher settings

Are you setting the Maximum Bandwidth at 1000000\1000000?

The Upstream rule Min rate should be 1 and the Max rate 60000.

Add a Downstream rule Min rate 1 and Max rate 10000.

Re: LRT214 Bandwidth Management having trouble at higher settings

Yes, max set at 1000000 and 1000000

I then set up and down rules as you instructed ( I think anyway, please double check the attached screenshot. )

Speedtest results are still not as expected with 89651 and 17810

Re: LRT214 Bandwidth Management having trouble at higher settings

The Downstream rule is disabled.

Make sure your device is in the IP Address range.
