LRT224 - Gateway or Router mode?

On the LRT224 Advanced Routing configuration page there are two 'Working Modes' - gateway and router.

What is the difference between the two modes and when should you change to the 'Router' mode rather than the default 'Gateway' mode?

Any help will be appreciated.

Typically when a router has the Gateway or Router mode options it means:

Gateway Mode:

  1. NAT is enabled
  2. Dynamic routing protocols are disabled

Router Mode:

  1. NAT is disabled
  2. Dynamic routing protocols can be enabled

Gateway mode is used for the edge router connecting directly to the Internet.

Router mode is used when connecting to an upstream router where you want your router's LAN IP Subnet available to the upstream network.

Re: LRT224 - Gateway or Router mode?

Hello,

I have problems with a static route.

My configuration looks like this:

- FritzBox as Internet Router from the Provider

- Linksys LRT214 behind the FritzBox in Gateway Mode with the local Network.

--> When I change the mode from Gateway to Router, then there is no Internet connection possible, however - with Gateway-Mode it works.

Now, when I configure a static route to another Network with a Gateway-Adress from a local Client, the traffic doesnt route to this Gateway. Why not?

Can anybody help me?

Regards

Joe

Suggest you post your enquiry as a new post as this is a thread that has already been answered - so no one will be looking to answer further...
