Mu-MiMo adapter doesn't activate MiMo indicators on EA9500

While we are waiting for the WUSB6100M adapter to be shipped, I am using an Embedded Tech 1×1 adapter based on the Realtek 8811 chipset.  All the Mu-MiMo USB adapters I have seen are based on the Realtek 8811 (1×1) or 8822 (2×2) chipset, Embedded Tech have one of each as does Premiertek.

Two likely situations here: the driver Windows 10 automatically selected for the adapter work, but don't support Mu-MiMo or the EA9500 needs a firmware update to enable the blue lights, which is suggested in the user guide.

Easy enough to eliminate the layyer: does anyone have those lights working? I have an RE7000 with Mu-Mimo, and you would think it would turn those indicators on,  but maybe not.

Re: Mu-MiMo adapter doesn't activate MiMo indicators on EA9500

Hi, Ratledge. What's the firmware version of the EA9500? 1 pair of blue LEDs should lit on the MU-MIMO indicator if a MU-MIMO client is connected to the router. Have you tried connecting the RE6700? How did it go?

Re: Mu-MiMo adapter doesn't activate MiMo indicators on EA9500

Both the RE7000 and EA9500 are set to automatically update, but I checked and the router is using firmware 1.1.5.172212 now, and if I manually check it says there is no newer firmware available. The RE7000 was originally paired up with my older EA7500, and I didn't change anything, just let it reconnect when I changed routers. I'll give a shot at redoing the connections with WPS just in case, the MAC addresses in the router for the radios changed, obviously. The thing is that while I wait for the Linksys WUSB6100M - which as far as I can tell isn't available yet, I took my 6300 out and installed an Embedded Works EW5280 which is a Mu-MiMo 1×1 AC 5GHz only adapter, and I don't see any indication on the router that I have MiMo there, either. It's based on the Realtek 8811 chipset as opposed to the 8812 (2×2 capable, but not necessarily implementated. That's why my second guess was the Windows picked a driver that supports the chipset but not the MiMo ability.

Re: Mu-MiMo adapter doesn't activate MiMo indicators on EA9500

I went back and setup the RE7000 as if it were new, using the factory reset hardware (10 second reset button) so it went back and asked me to accept the license and everything. Set up the same parameters as before, associated it with the EA9500 router again on both the 2.4GHz & 5GHz bands/radios, and ended up with the same results - no indication of MiMo from the router blue lights. I also deleted the configuration for the Embedded Works 5280 1×1 MiMo adapter and allowed it to set itself up again using the built-in Windows 10 drivers. No blue MiMo lights there, either. I received a PremierTek Mu-MiMo 2×2 (2T2R antennas) adapter today, and will set it up this evening when I have more time to fiddle with the configuration. Since all of these adapters are based on either the 8811 or 8812 Realtek chipsets, and both can (but don't require) Mu-MiMo, maybe Windows 10 is using default drivers that don't support that functionality?

Thanks for the update, Ratledge. Connecting the RE7000 to the router should make the MU-MIMO indicator LEDs to lit. We'll have the Level II Support team take on this matter for you. Please send us an email at LinksysCares@linksys.com with your phone number and location. Also, make sure to include the link to this post.

Re: Mu-MiMo adapter doesn't activate MiMo indicators on EA9500

I wanted to see if there was any resolution or followup to this as I am also running into the same issue. I have had the EA9500 since November 2016. I have several MIMO capable devices, although mine are more a mix of mobile phones (2 Samsung Galxy Note5, 2 Samsung Galaxy S8+, and also a Linksys RE7000). After the setup in 2016, I have seen the indicators on my EA9500 indicating MU-MIMO devices are connected, but after the May 8th FW update, I only ever get the white bars showing and do not ever see the blue MIMO indicators. I performed a factory reset on both the RE7000 and EA9500 and also attempted to disconnect the RE7000 completely and factory reset the EA9500 and attempt without the range extender, but I still never get the indicators.

Are you running on firmware version 1.1.7.180968? If you are and you're still experiencing the challenge, please shoot us an email at LinksysCares@linksys.com with the link to this thread and your community username so we can forward you to our Level 2 Support team for further assistance.

This firmware update should've fixed the challenge.
