WUSB6400M on the macbook pro is so slow

[ Edited ]

I have a macbook pro and a Linksys WRT3200ACM router. I use 5GHz band with seperate name to connect to wifi.

By the macbook wifi it's fine. A 1.3GB file on external storage of the router took 2 minutes to transfer to my mac.

I bought a WUSB6400M adaptor today, so I can get better speed, but I'm so disappointed. it's so slow. the same file took more than 6 minutes to transfer. I expect very fast speed but it's so slower than the mac wifi adapter.

I changed the router setting to only support ac protocol, but it's slow too.

Is there anything wrong? Do you suggest anything so I can get better speed?

Did you try using the latest Mac Setup Utility available on the Linksys support site?

Thank you for your reply,

At first, I installed it from the disk, but now I uninstalled and installed it again from linksys website (version1.0.0.7). It didn't change a bit. the file took 6 minutes and 18 seconds to transfer.

I changed wifi settings a lot of times and the best speed I could get was when setting is AC Only, Channel 132 - 5.660 GHz and Channel width 40 MHz. the file transfered in 2 minutes and 21 seconds.

I calculated the speed and it's about 70 Mbps. it's so slower than 800 Mbps that I expected.

It's also a little bit slower than the internal macbook pro adapter that is 802.11n and from 2011.

What does a www.speedtest.net report?

Re: WUSB6400M on the macbook pro is so slow

I want to increase my internal wireless network speed, not the internet speed.

However, my router is connected to a D-Link ADSL modem. I have 16Mbps connection and Speedtest result for a nearby city server shows that Ping is 34ms, Download speed is 13.70Mbps and Upload speed is 0.81 Mbps.
