Hi,
I just get a new E4200. I have connected my USB drive on it.
Activated the media server option, added a share for my videos. I can upload files using the UNC access, no problem.
but Windows 7 didn't see the media server on the network.
I try various setup no change...
I rename the media server... oh... the server appear in Windows 7... for about 10 seconds and then disappears!!!
I rename it again, same behavior, the media server is listed for few seconds only.
what's the problem???

what firmware do you have? Version 1.0.02 kind of messed up the media server functionality.

If you want to use the server then you can either wait till they fix it, or roll-back to the previous firmware. Here's the old one http://www.mediafire.com/?qscbxpgls2hkmxb

I upgrade to get the IPv6... but do not having the media server is more important...

Contact tech support. The more people contact them with the same problem, there will be greater pressure/incentive to fix it. Hopefully, they will fix it soon without breaking something else. (Actually, these kinds of problems seem to be prevalent in the home router industry and not limited to Linksys). None of the leading routers seem to work as advertised (and I have tried and returned plenty of them). There is always a serious defect in one or more aspects.

I little rant here, I will try to be civil. I paid good money for this router and it should have supported ipv6 upon release given its release date and the state of ipv4. A firmware update finally fixes this and it breaks the next best feature of the router (the media server). The e4200 in my mind is turning out to be a failure, its not living up to its price. This has got to be fixed FAST!!

I've been talking to an engineer who is working with the firmware team to fix the E4200 firmware issues so I think it would be pointless to call tech support since it goes to the same people anyway
. But like I said, I'll keep you guys informed on how things are going. Plus they don't come back until Monday anyway
.
