FTP port filtered by E4200 Router

[ Edited ]

Hi

I have recently purchased a WD My Book Live and connected to my E4200 Router. I am trying to access this device using FTP from outside my local network. I did all required setting but with no success.

I am able to connect to this using FTP from within my Local network.

I used nmap to find scan the ports and it says port 21 filtered.

Any one has any clue what I am missing here.

Thanks

Maybe your ISP filters incoming FTP or your modem is a router.

Absolutely it delends on your ISP settings.. If you have a DSL connection then you need get the Modem in the bridge mode so that it can bypass the ipaddress which is coming from the ISP's End.

However if its a cable connection then make sure the FTP port is forwarded on your modem as well.. So that the router can also bypass it..

Re: FTP port filtered by E4200 Router

Depends on the modem-router.

Of course before that you have to determine whether the modem is also a router or not. Check what IP address you get when wired directly to the modem. If it's a private IP address it's probably a router and the gateway address is the IP address of that modem-router.

The modem is a TimeWarner Cable "ARRIS" and I have an E3000 router yes I do know the IP address of the modem.

Again: Check what IP address you get when wired directly to the modem. If it's a private IP address it's probably a router and the gateway address is the IP address of that modem-router.

What IP address do you get when you wire your computer directly to the modem?

Straight to the computer to the modem IP address is 71.75.92.7

Run icsi netalyzr and see if it says port 21 is blocked. I just don't think the other program you ran is accurate. The place outside your home might be th one doing the blocking. http://www.google.com/m/url?client=safari&ei=eAcuTsCXDc6miAKgmfk1&hl=en&oe=UTF-8&q=http://netalyzr.i...
I don't work for Cisco. I'm just here to help.

Norton 360 or Internet Explorer is not letting me access that page. Do you have another one?
