Linksys E4200 WPA2 TKIP

[ Edited ]

In all my previous routers I've been able to setup WPA2 wireless security in an AES+TKIP mode...  But I can't figure out how to do that with the E4200 (doesn't give me such an option).  Is there any way to do that...?   Or is that what the "WPA2/WPA mixed mode" is?

Reason I ask is, I want to be able to hook my PSP up to my wireless network, but it has to be TKIP, not AES.  On my old wireless setup, I could do that with the WPA2 (AES+TKIP) setup.  I'm concerned that if I use the E4200 WPA2/WPA mixed mode, doesn't that defeat the purpose of having WPA2 security?  (WPA being weaker and "crackable"?)   Or is it that my old wireless routers were being deceptive and their "+TKIP" was really WPA security?

I guess I'm being overly paranoid, but I'd rather be safe than sorry...    If I set up guest access in the E4200, can that be in WPA mode, without it changing my private network's security?    Or should I set up MAC filters and go into mixed mode?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Linksys E4200 WPA2 TKIP

The WPA2/WPA mixed mode is exactly what you want. It's actually the identical setting to the WPA2 with "AES+TKIP" which you had before.

WPA uses TKIP.
WPA2 uses the more secure AES but can be configure backward compatible to accept WPA/TKIP connections as well.

WPA/TKIP is still quite secure. If you have to use it, use mixed mode. That should be O.K. It's not like it is cracked quickly and easily like WEP security.

The MAC filter won't do anything for your security. It won't make mixed mode any more secure.

Ok..   I kinda figured, but I really appreciate you taking the time to clear it up for me.  Thanks!
